<3 Books

All respect to Chris Sells, I’m with Petzold.  I freakin love books.  And doing more reading is a part of my de-stressing plan in response to recent events. I have been a book lover since I can remember.   Reports are that I was reading by 3, and in my childhood you would often find me curled up with a book somewhere in the house.  I had dozens of my own books that I read over and over, I filled library punch cards over and over, and when I went to my grandparents’ I would read the books that my dad and...

ConnectViaBooks

Check out Nick's latest project, ConnectViaBooks. Registration is free, and the interface is way cool.  It lets you set up booklists and find others with similar reading interests – seems like a great way to tap into a potentially unknown developer community that may be near you that you wouldn’t otherwise find since not everyone blogs. Also check out the new “Currently Reading” flair on the side of my blog, a beta feature of the site.  Tags: Books

Books

A little memeing (really?  is that a word?  I say yes!) thanks to Larry O'Brien… You’re stuck inside Farenheit 451, which book do you want to be? Well…to burn or not to burn, that is the question.  Let’s go for an ironic answer and say Bonfire of the Vanities. (Yes…I realize…) Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? Most of the stronger characters that have really affected me have been male…maybe that says something about my reading patterns… or something about male-centric authors…or maybe that 9 times out of 10 chicks are only major players in chick novels….that and I read...

Best Damn Book *Ever*

Rory is afraid of running out of interesting authors to read.  That leads us to know that the best damn book he's ever read is Demon-Haunted World by Carl Sagan.  I have been meaning to give this one a try. In furtherance of this idea, James Avery lists his best of all time.  I'm kind of with him on the list thing, I've read so many great books and it's hard to narrow them down to the best ever.  But, unlike James, who is chickening out on the challenge of finding one ;-) I will now attempt to name the best all-around book...

What I'm reading...how about you?

Scott Hanselman wants to know what you're reading. [Via ComputerZen.com - Scott Hanselman's Weblog] Here's what I'm in the middle of, as Scott would say, bookmarked and on the night stand. I Am the Cheese - Robert Cormier.  Recommended by a coworker as a quick read that's very good.  So far, I'm enjoying it, if for nothing else than his ability to turn a phrase. Shampoo Planet - Douglas Coupland.  Same coworker let me borrow this.  I traded her for Microserfs, which is one of my favorite books of all time.  Also, if you like...

100 Books

People don't read enough these days, and that's like...75% of our problems. Yeah...I said it. So anyway, Bill has this thing going on his blog (that he found on Andy's blog). Y = you read it. NF = started but didn't finish N = never read it. then add three of your own.  Like Bill, I ask that if you do this on your blog comment-link me so I can read yours.  Here go mine: 1. The Lord of the Rings, JRR Tolkien - Y 2. Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen - NF 3. His Dark Materials, Philip Pullman (read one of three) - N 4. The Hitchhiker's Guide...
