Today Scott Bellware released the informational website for the upcoming Open Space in Austin, which is specifically focused on Continuous Improvement in .NET Software Development. Quickly following the site going live, twitter was raging harder than Tropical Storm Fay about kaizenconf, and why it isn't alt.net. Now I understand that people assumed that because Scott was doing an Open Space in Austin that it would be "alt.net Austin 2.0", and colloquially people have been referring to it as an alt.net event, but as of June 9, when he posted information in the alt.net mailing list, he was clear that the...
Scott Hanselman talked about this one night down in the lobby of the Marriott in Redmond, and, surprising nobody, actually followed through with it! IOC(SM):MOC(RM):TDD(Mb):SCC(TFS):ORM(NH):XPP(++):DDD(B+) Sweetness. Go generate your own. Technorati Tags: alt.net,altnetconf,humor
Disclaimer: This post represents my own views of alt.net and is merely an expression of what I would like to see it become. This is not necessarily the view shared by anyone else. I do not speak for this group. So this alt.net thing has been around for almost a year now (as a named concept anyway), and with the upcoming Seattle event, I've been wondering what my place in this world is, what my contribution can be, and most importantly, what my passion in software is, and how I can work toward it. I want to go to...
If you are having a problem keeping up with the firehose that is the altnetconf list, or would really just like a distilled look at the more salient points of any day, check out Alt.Net Pursefight! I seem to have drawn their ire which, I suppose, gives me some nerd-fame. In fact, I make an appearance in 4 of the first 6 posts. Score! Link to my blog when you talk about me guys, I want to capitalize on this! The point being made is good though, anyone who just came in to altnetconf the mailing list in the last couple of weeks would...
Title courtesy of Chris Chapman Some twittering this morning surrounding yesterday's ALT.Net summit got me to thinking about a broader principle that needs to be applied here. There is no growth within your comfort zone. If you always do that which is familiar, you reach a point of utter stagnation. Some call it a rut. Some call it doldrums. Call it what you will, but it's stagnation, made heavier by inertia. I talked about this before and I'll say it again: Sometimes you have to shock your system to make real progress. A lot of lashback for alt.net right now is...
Some of the Alt.Net leader-types are meeting in NYC to discuss just kind of where Alt.Net is, where it should be, and just trying to get handle on this community. Glenn Block is "Twittercasting" some of the meetings in near-real-time (follow Glenn) David Laribee and Wendy Friedlander have both posted some brain-dumps to the altnetconf list from the meetings as well. It's an exciting time in software development. I can't wait to see where this goes. Tags: alt.net altnetconf
My only decent contribution to the altnet group to date :/ The idea is you can geolocate like-minded developers and hopefully use the map to set up meetings, geek dinners, book clubs, or just coffee and an argument about grokkability (I went there). Check out the map, it's nice to be able to pinpoint the location of our community members. Also check out the altnetpedia if you want to know what this is all about, and the mailing list if you a) have the balls to stand it and 2) can handle the firehose. Tags: alt.net altnetconf
