So, been out of town in NYC the last week. More on that later. I was stoked to go up because I would finally have a chance to fly jetBlue. I have to say, I was not disappointed. Leg room was pretty good compared to some other airlines. I’m about 6-2, so if I can stretch out and be comfortable, I’m happy. Plus the seats were incredibly comfortable. And who can argue with your own personal television?

So all in all, good reviews on flying jetBlue. Check it out if you are flying to one of their cities.

On to the wireless. What a pain in the ass. I was in the JFK terminal, where they have free wireless internet. Very cool feature. However, it turns out that, at least today, free means “only if you can figure out how to connect”. Sitting there was me, my IT director, and our Network Engineer. Of course after getting through security and grabbing a cup of coffee, we went right to the chairs and booted up laptops. Wireless connection found…no DHCP. No IP Address. No gateway. Nada. Jason went to ask someone what the deal was…and of course the guy at the counter had no idea. So…after a little trial and error, here’s how we got around it (and how you can do so should you find yourself in the same situation).

Assign self IP address. 192.168.65.xx worked for us. I was .2, Jason .237, and David, the network engineer, kept bitching that he couldn’t find an open IP. So I start pinging and…second try, get him .6. Having done that, we set default gateway to 192.168.65.1 (same subnet, very important), subnet mask leave at 255.255.255.0. Set DNS to 4.2.2.1 (real DNS server. Thank you David, I did not know that). Viola, we’re on the internet. I can only imagine what all the other people were doing…if we hadn’t been tech people, we would have been sitting there all pissed off and I would be bitching to all of you how much jetBlue sucks because they advertise free broken wireless. But, I’m just going to give them the benefit of the doubt, DHCP services do go down, or maybe the IP addresses are on a long release cycle and they ran out, and we figured it out. But if anyone reading knows anyone in jetBlue IT, you might want to let them know.

Writing this on the plane back to Orlando. They’re bringing around the blue chips now. The blue chips are good. I like the blue chips.
