Ah, yet another solution looking for a problem. Basically…create a map for a group. Interesting use of google maps…more social software. Are we taking this social software thing a bit far? I mean…really.Oh, so here is the map for readers of this blog. It’s very sad. Add yourself.
I neglected to mention that Mike “CoyoteBoy” Earls also has quaffed the colored sugar water. Grats Mike.
Got me thinking about when I was working up in Boston, a guy on a different team that I used to take smoke breaks with went down to Connecticut and interviewed with a little company you may have heard of called WinZip. They offered him the job. It was going to be a bit of a commute, and the money was only slightly better, and we were talking about whether or not he should seriously think about it. In the end, I’m like “dude…it’s...
A stern yet benevolent organizer who often knows best, your wits are keenly fixed on aiding efforts you deem worthy. Now at this last we must take a hard road, a road unforseen. There lies our hope, if hope it be. To walk into peril to Mordor. [Via Paul Lockwood]
Oh, it was Erik. Congrats man! This is bittersweet, of course, because Erik was a great guy to have around on FAZR, but those qualities that made him so valuable to us are undoubtedly the reason he will be moving to Redmond.I first ran into Erik on the fields of Coagulation, where his pwnag3 with the covey sword was impressive. Then about a year later we’re working together on Project FAZR. Funny the degrees of separation in the community. Anyway, the guy is brilliant, and I’m way excited for him (although I’m sure he’s excited enough for himself). So, Erik, have fun...
This is awesome.[Via Jeff Key]
Trying to decide which one to go to. Orlando on Dec 8 is an obvious choice. New York on November 22 could be cool, and I’m also thinking Boston on December 15th. Any thoughts? Are any of you going to any of them?Don’t forget to check out the Launch Tour 2005 Knowledge Center.
If you haven’t read 0wnz0red by Cory Doctorow, do it. Hacking the body, the ultimate in programmer wet dreams. Like I said the other day, I would kill for a CLR wrapper to the body’s internal systems.I guess for now we have to settle for a little biochemistry, a little neuropsychology, exercise and nutrition science, and so on, to bend our bodies and minds to our wills. However, the physical attributes of many geeks notwithstanding, we’re exactly the demographic to learn and dissect this kind of thing.I guess that’s just a pseudorandom thought from me. I’m unhappy with my current mental...
Jason Bentley posted this dealy here that calculates what your blog is “worth”. According to this, I pwn Jason :P by a few grand:My blog is worth $14,678.04.How much is your blog worth? It takes me back to a lesson I learned from my Dad a long time ago. I used to be obsessed with my baseball cards, got a Beckett’s every month, looked up all my stuff, and bragged about how much they were worth. I did the same with comic books. I was too young and inexperienced at the time to understand the cyclical nature of markets, and how collectible goods “markets”...
Wilma came and went. I’m heading to New York this week to do some bidness, and I think i’m more likely to see the bitch there than I did here. Barely got rain. Oh boy was it beautiful today though, in the 60s, the first sign of the return of tolerable weather. 57 now and I have the windows open.Anyway, bloody hell do I have a lot on my plate right now. There’s my job, which is huge in time consumption for the next few months (we all know those cycles on a project), FAZR, extracurriculars, some self learning, travel,...
What a nice thing to wake up to this morning. We made it to the end of the names for the year, and it’s a bitch. (One only wonders, with a month to go in the season, how far into the greek alphabet we’ll get (for those of you who don’t live on the gulf coast and don’t obsess over hurricanes, the names wrap to the greek alphabet after W))Here’s a look at where I stand in all this: Right there on the outer north edge of the “Projected Path”. This is, again for those of you who have the luxury...
I’ll be doing some more in-depth stuff later in the week here on the blog, but I just had a few things I want to get down from the last three days.
Some of the attendees here kill me with their attitudes and comments…just some of the things you hear in sessions or walking around are priceless. A few of note:
Pre-conference workshop, Rocky is giving a *great* talk on business objects. Now it’s about “distributed objects” and scaleable systems, but it’s an all day class and there’s a lot of groundwork to lay down. So this guy pipes up and asks “hey,...

Okay, all checked in to the Dolphin, slightly less crappy view than the last time I stayed here. I’m here for the duration, pre and post conference days, etc.Everyone who’s here: welcome to Florida. You’ll have a better appreciation for home when you leave :P
MbUnit poobah Andy Stopford threw up a link to the Joel Test the other day. He got a comment that went a little something like:
“Hey thanks for the link to the Joel test. I now have more arguments to convince my bosses on the importance of working in a quiet environment, using the best tools money can buy, among other things.”
Buddy, I gotta tell ya, if you have to find arguments to convince your bosses that programmers need quiet, good tools, and so on, you gotta get out of that job. Like now. Even if the offers are not being thrown...
